Russia-Ukraine war : Biden supports a plan to train Ukrainian fighter pilots on F-16 combat jets.

Reuters, Washington: President Joe Biden reportedly briefed the G7 leaders on Friday that Washington supports joint alliance training programmes for Ukrainian pilots operating F-16 fighter jets, according to senior U.S. officials. This is an important affirmation as Kyiv works to strengthen its air force against Russia.

One of the individuals said that the months-long training for the US-built jets would be conducted in Europe. According to calculations made by American officials, 18 months is the quickest amount of time for training and delivering F-16s. When the planes are actually deployed will be decided by the coalition of states engaging in this operation. The ambassador also stated who will supply them while training takes place over the next few months.

The source did not say which countries would be involved, but British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak indicated that the UK would cooperate with the Netherlands, Belgium, and Denmark to provide Ukraine with the necessary air combat capability. According to the person, the US wants to start training on fourth-generation fighters, such as F-16s, in the upcoming weeks. Ukraine is looking for the Lockheed Martin jets as it makes its biggest move in months against invading Russian soldiers ahead of a planned counteroffensive.

Western governments have been leery of leaving their own countries undefended by distributing excessive amounts of equipment. They have also avoided deploying anything that could hit deep into Russian territory and provide Moscow with justification to launch an attack.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy received assurances this week from the United Kingdom and the Netherlands to assist establish a “jets coalition,” though neither country’s leaders said they would send planes. On Friday, Zelenskyy praised the news. Our aerial army will be greatly strengthened as a result. I look forward to discussing the real implementation of this decision at the #G7 summit in Hiroshima, he tweeted.
