Jane Birkin, a British-born singer and actress, passes away at age 76.

English singer and actress Jane Mallory Birkin Because of her ten-year musical and emotional collaboration with Serge Gainsbourg, she acquired international renown and notoriety. Additionally, she had a successful acting career that was primarily in French cinema.

On December 14, 1946, in Marylebone, London, Jane Mallory Birkin was born.

Judy Campbell, her mother, was an English actress best known for her theater performances. During World War II, her father, David Birkin, served as a lieutenant commander in the Royal Navy.

Born and bred in Chelsea, Birkin identified herself as a “shy English girl.”

The English-French celebrity, who was a style icon in the late 1960s and early 1970s, was well-known for her professional and personal connection with the artist Serge Gainsbourg.

She was discovered dead at her Paris residence, according to French media.

With the help of their global smash “Je t’aime… moi non plus,” she gained international fame thanks to her creative and personal partnership with Gainsbourg, who passed away in 1991.

Months after they first met on the Slogan set, the pair decided to record a duet together in 1968.

Gainsbourg continued to write songs for Birkin over their 12-year relationship, and the two remained friends after their breakup.

Charlotte Gainsbourg, a multi-award-winning actress and singer, is the couple’s daughter.

They have a reputation for having a “tumultuous” relationship, and Birkin allegedly wrote about violence between the two in her 2020 journals.

In 2002, she self-penned the album Arabesque, and in 2009, Jane at the Palace, a collection of live recordings, was released.

Birkin made an appearance in the 1991 miniseries Red Fox and the 1998 American drama movie A Soldier’s Daughter Never Cries. In 2016, she played a lonely widow who develops a romance with a train driver in the Oscar-nominated short film La femme et le TGV.

As part of her legacy, Birkin is credited with creating the renowned Hermes Birkin handbag, which debuted in 1983. She was a fashion icon and a model as well.

Following a stroke, Birkin was said to be recovering well on September 6, 2021.

“This departure is so sad,” said Roselyne Bachelot, France’s minister of culture, on French television station BFM. She had lovely features.
