Inter Miami destroys Atlanta United thanks to two goals from Lionel Messi to advance to the League Cup quarterfinals.

In his first start for Inter Miami on Tuesday, Lionel Messi once again displayed his talent as he guided the team to a convincing 4-0 victory over Atlanta United in a Teams Cup match in Florida’s Fort Lauderdale.

The Argentine superstar had an immediate impact on the game, contributing two assists along with two goals. His remarkable effort enabled Inter Miami to advance to the Round of 32 of the in-season competition, which includes groups from both Major League Soccer and Liga MX in Mexico.

Messi’s spectacular single effort gave Inter Miami the lead in the ninth minute. In order to get a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, he skillfully dribbled past opponents after receiving a perfectly placed long pass from fellow rookie Sergio Busquets. He simply tapped in the rebound with his right foot after his initial left-footed attempt had struck the far post.

Messi continued to work his magic on the field by scoring another goal in the 22nd minute by converting a pass from Robert Taylor with his right foot.

Messi’s ability to think outside the box was evident when he assisted Taylor in scoring in the 44th and 53rd minutes, respectively, as Taylor successfully finished a two-on-one breakaway to score both of his goals for the evening.

Inter Miami suffered a little setback despite the resounding victory when Christopher McVey was sent off for a foul in the penalty area in the 84th minute. However, Thiago Almada’s ensuing penalty kick was saved by Inter Miami goalkeeper Drake Callender, preserving the perfect score.
